This double-fronted Georgian home in East London held huge potential for architectural intervention. It was ripe for re-imagination into a glorious family home after five years left empty – and suffering for it. The clients had clear references in mind, which included modern art, the Art Deco era, and the client’s upbringing in Spain. Architects Bradley Van Der Straeten centred their design around a new, triple-height stair gallery that we sensitively constructed through the building’s core. Crafted from metal and timber, it provides continuous visual connections throughout the home while flooding it with natural light. The considered use of colours, materials and traditional features make this home welcome and warm, despite its generous proportions.
