We constructed this striking two-storey extension as a complementary addition to an existing Buckinghamshire home, creating it in contrast to the more traditional aesthetic of the adjacent building, to which it was to be connected by a bridge. Working with architects Bradley Van Der Straeten, the design proposed a whole new volume externally, and seamlessly merged the old and new internally.

This project is defined by its strategic use of simple and select materials. The exposed, long grey bricks are repeated both inside and out, their rugged constant considerately offset by the uninterrupted surfaces of the clean white walls, large terrazzo panelling and monochrome kitchen cabinetry. The extensive glazing and double-height ceilings ensure the space is always bathed in natural light.
