The Steele's Road House involved the renovation and extending of a Victorian era terraced house in Belsize Park area of London. Extensive structural works were carried out by removing internal walls in order to bring more natural light in and connect the interior with the very large garden and making the space feel bigger and brighter.  The new layout design creates views of both the front and back garden throughout the house .

The layout is arranged with the shared living spaces on the raised ground floor and the bedrooms on the lower ground floor where underpinning and specialist waterproofing was done in order to enlarge the spaces and maximize its functionality for a growing family. The two new patios created on both levels extend the interiors outside and connect with the garden. The terracing of the garden softens the view from the bedroom and connects the two patios to both the levels and garden.

The lower ground floor extension is finished with Accoya cladding and Accoya sliging doors creating a contemporary look against the original Victorian details above. The striking red of the handrail modern in design picks up on the red from the original brickwork tying the modern and the old together.

The project took 12 months to complete and made use of all the skills in our team. The bespoke joinery was all carried out by our inhouse team and subcontractors, Dinesen Douglas Fir solid floors were installed and the kitchen was made to match with matching Dinesen boards. Terrazo and marble tiles  from Italy were installed by our in house team as was the Tadelakt finnish to the bathrooms. Our director Eljon managed the project and worked closely with the garden designer and contractors ans well as glazing subcontractors making sure that everyone worked towards achieving the high quality product we aim for and expected by our clients.

We worked with Optimal Build on the full gut renovation of our home in Belsize Park and they did an amazing job on the building works, putting a huge amount of effort and attention to detail into a highly complex project, which ranged from deep structural work to all of the interior finishes such as joinery, kitchen, crittall windows and hard-wood flooring. They were a great team to work with. Edi and Eljon truly cared about helping us create our dream family home, and as such they were incredibly accommodating when it came to listening to our needs and helping us find solutions when issues came up along the way."Barbara & Andrei, clients
